The Tomaž Godec Museum

meet the man that stood up to Nazi Germany

The Museum of Tomaž Godec in Bohinjska Bistrica is located in the birth house of Tomaž Godec (1905–1942), a local tanner, an extraordinary skier and organiser of sports in Bohinj. Today, a cross-country skiing memorial in Bohinj is called after him. He was the first partisan in Bohinj and one of the leaders of the so-called Bohinj Uprising against German invadors in 1941.

Renovated museum houses a permanent exhibition on the history of Bohinj, from the first prehistoric settlement to both World Wars. Economic activities, customs, language and many creative dwellers of Bohinj reveal how rich was the past here. One part of the permanent exhibition is dedicated to tannery.

Interesting temporary exhibitions, museum evenings and occasional workshops for children and adults are also being held in this museum.
